Understanding the historical hydrological dynamics of Himalayan is essential for effective water resource management and adaptation strategies in the face of ongoing climate changes. However, past hydrological datasets from the Himalayan regions are still sporadic and knowledge gaps exist.
“PAHAD-3K” aims to start filling some of those gaps through an innovative multi-disciplinary approach combining the study of lake and moraine sedimentary archives to provide new reconstructions of the:
- paleohydrological variability from external and internal Himalayas,
- spatial extent of the summer monsoon and westerlies penetration,
- frequency and severity of flashfloods and droughts, to reveal the climatic patterns, exacerbating or attenuating those disasters.
